JACKSBORO, TN (WLAF)- Caryville Elementary School First graders were invited to Tuesday’s Campbell County Board of Education meeting to lead the board and others in the Pledge of Allegiance. This is a new tradition that the board is starting, according to Campbell County School District Director Charlotte McCoy who said she asked the students to come lead the pledge to highlight “one more positive” in the community and to get students and parents involved in school board meetings. Shortly before the meeting started, the group of first graders could be heard “rehearsing” the pledge several times outside the courtroom doors.

“I just thought it would be one more positive thing for our school district to have the students involved in the meeting,” McCoy said. The board of education plans to rotate schools and invite first grade students from other elementaries across the district to lead the pledge at future meetings. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED-09/09/2026-6AM)
